Like a user story, a use case describes how a user will interact with a system to achieve a goal but on a slightly more granular level. However, we use Visio primarily for business and/or project process flows. Use Case Template (MS Word+Visio) 1 Introduction 1.1 Purpose of use cases 2 Use Case Definition 2.1 Description 2.2 Actor 2.3 Priority 2.4 Pre-conditions 2.5. What is a use case Explaining how a user will interact with a system is a must if you’re going to a) get buy-in from stakeholders and b) create something the user wants to use. If they aren't able to do that, we just take pictures of it and then recreate it in Visio. Enterprise Architect allows you to attach a Scenario description to a Use Case and then parse that information to create a Structured Specification. And then somebody on my team will be sitting there with Visio, recreating it as we go. Sometimes, for example, if I've got a good person working on my team, I'll be with the client, facilitating the session and we'll have sticky notes on the wall that represent the process steps, and the outcomes, and the inputs, and all that stuff. The outcome of those sessions is documented largely in Vizio. One of the things that I tell my clients is that "Before you implement a system, you really need to check your business processes that the system is automating, to make sure that you're not automating a bad process." Therefore, we have a whole methodology on how to do business process design sessions, facilitated sessions. 68 I have installed Visio 2013 Standard and Im trying to create an UML diagram. Use case diagram is a behavioral UML diagram type and frequently used to analyze various systems. Even when we're doing a systems implementation project, I'll use it. Visio in Microsoft 365 is an excellent tool for creating custom diagrams to illustrate concepts that are difficult to explain through text. What I like to use Visio for is business process design work.
